Munkar (2024)
Munkar is a 2024 Indonesian horror film about a santri who dies in an accident after being bullied at an Islamic boarding school. The film explores themes of institutional abuse, hazing, and violence in Asian education systems. <br />Plot:<br />Herlina is a santri who is bullied by her peers at an Islamic boarding school in East Java. <br />Herlina is accused of stealing a ring from the Kyai's wife. <br />Herlina is found with the ring in her bag, and the pesantren searches the other santri. <br />Herlina flees to avoid punishment, but dies in a tragic accident. <br />Her parents seek the help of a shaman to revive Herlina's spirit so she can avenge herself against her tormentors. <br />Production:<br />Munkar was directed by Anggy Umbara and produced by MD Pictures and Pichouse Films. <br />The film stars Adhisty Zara, Ratu Sofya, Saskia Chadwick, Kaneishia Yusuf, Ayu Hastari, and Elma Theana. <br />Munkar premiered in Indonesian cinemas on February 7, 2024.
