The Missing Pelican
Two decades ago in Concord, California, I sat across from a woman at a small agency on Monument Boulevard called Pelican Travel. I went in pretending to plan a trip for a college assignment. I left confident I had been mistaken for the wrong kind of customer. When I tried to find the place again, it was gone—and eventually so was every trace that it had ever existed.
