More than 70 people have died in a day of violence across Iraq as a result of car bombs, suicide attacks and gun battles.

The attacks have heightened fears of a return to sectarian civil war.

In the town of Tuz Khurmato in the north of Iraq, a powerful blast killed at least three people and wounded around 30 more.Shop fronts were destroyed and vehicles left as burnt-out shells.
