A woman in Chicago, 51-year-old Shermain Miles has accepted a plea deal which will send her to a mental health facility. She has been arrested a total of 396 times throughout her life.

Habitual offenders usually get harsher sentences with each conviction.

In one recent case, the suspect is insanely lucky. A woman in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, 51-year-old Shermain Miles has accepted a deal which will send her to a mental health facility and a drug abuse treatment program.

The ‘slap on the wrist’ type of punishment is noteworthy considering Miles has been arrested a total of 396 times throughout her life. The overseeing judge stated “All of us are reaching out to you and offering you, maybe for the first time in your life, a hand, OK? But you’ve got to reach out and grab all of our hands as well.”

Miles was released from jail in the spring of 2011 after she served time for an armed robbery. After being freed, she got arrested several more times which violated her parole and sent her back behind bars.

The judge agreed to sentence Miles to time served for the numerous offenses in recent years. It is not known when she will be released from prison, but Miles did thank the judge for the leniency.
