A French appeals court has upheld the life sentence of Carlos the Jackal, the Marxist militant once one of the world's most wanted criminals.

The 63-year-old Venezuelan, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, had appealed his conviction for masterminding four bomb attacks that killed 11 people in the seventies in France.
