A California man, 46-year old John Michael White was wanted by police on a felony drug warrant. At around 10 o’clock on a recent Sunday night, police noticed White on the street and tried to approach him.

Evidently the suspect knew he was going to jail if he stopped to speak with officers, so he abruptly ran towards a nearby beach and ripped off his clothing. He hopped in the waters and began swimming.

Coronado law enforcement along with Coast Guard authorities, the Navy Shore Patrol and lifeguards joined forces to apprehend White.

According to the police chief “He was actually in and out of the water trying to play a cat and mouse game with officers on shore.” The evading effort lasted throughout the entire night.

White would walk in shallow water then swim further out to sea when officers got close to him. Finally at 5:30 in the morning, a dive team was able to successfully catch him and take White into custody.

It is suspected he was high on drugs during the ordeal.
