The US Senate has passed an immigration reform bill that contains measures to grant citizenship to 11 million undocumented immigrants.

The vote, 68-32, offers a gradual path to citizenship for those who entered the US illegally coupled with tougher border controls to prevent future unauthorised entry.

An additional 20,000 frontier guards will be employed as part of the new reforms.
