Obama hosts U.S. troops at White House

U.S. President Barack Obama continued a White House tradition of honoring the U.S. armed forces on Independence Day (July 4).

"People in scattered corners of the world are living in peace today, free to write their own futures, because of you," Obama told his guests who had converged on the south lawn of the White House.

He told members of the military and their families that while the country celebrates its independence, it especially appreciates those who fight for the ideals of the American Revolution that began with Declaration of Independence in 1776.

"Defending our nation, and our freedoms, with strengths and with sacrifice is your daily charge and it's the charge of all who serve worldwide including our troops that are still in harms way and their families back home, they serve too and so we think of them, we pray for them, and on behalf of all Americans, I want to say thank you and wish you all a very very happy Fourth o
