Air travel can be particularly trying for pets, so it only makes sense that our loyal, furry friends should get a little something extra out of it. A handful of airlines agree and do, indeed, offer pet frequent flyer programs.

Jet Blue Virgin Australia and Continental all award points, although in some cases they’re only given for cargo transit.

Also, the points go to the owner, which in the eyes of Fido and Fluffy is probably a drag.

Virgin Atlantic is where the real action is for your four-legged loved ones.

Sure, the upright walker on the trip can cash in, but there’s also an option to pass the perks along to the one who has to fly stuffed into a little carrier.

Pets can earn and trade in their own points for handmade food bowls, salon services, and Prada and Gucci clothing.

Just for showing up, Virgin Atlantic showers dogs with t-shirts and sparkly tags. Cats get a special red toy mouse and collar charm. There’s even stuff for ferrets – flying jackets and neckwear.

Pets also get passports so they can track their travels.
