Tamarod movement spreads across the Middle East
With 22 million signatures collected on the streets and on the net, Egypt’s Tamarod movement was at the origin of the mass rallies that lead to the army’s removal of the Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
Tamorod means rebellion in Arabic and the campaign has inspired Tunisian activists, who are also opposed to their Islamist authorities that have been leading the country since the Arab Spring. In this petition, which has gathered over 200,000 signatures, the organizers are calling for the dissolution of the National Constituent Assembly which they believe is trying to embed religion into the draft constitution.

Calls for revolutions, which have also spread, albeit to a lesser extent, to other countries across the region, like Libya, where activists are demanding the armed militias be disbanded, denouncing the various political parties that are delaying the drafting of a new constitution, through their own power struggles.
And a signature campaign is also underway in Syria, condemning divisions within the Syrian National Council. A coalition of opponents of Bashar al-Assad which many feel does not represent the revolution or the rebels fighting on the ground, against the Damascus regime.
