STORY: Heavy rains caused severe flooding in northern Mexico on Friday, leaving dozens stranded, hundreds homeless and the international airport inundated.
Rescuers lowered helicopters to extract men, women and children from homes and vehicles in danger of being swept away in the city of Chihuahua.
Meanwhile, the rains floodwaters spilled into the Chihuahua International Airport, forcing it to temporarily close.
Passengers could be seen wading through ankle-deep water. Airport authorities said at least 15 flights had been canceled.
The airport will remain closed indefinitely, according to authorities.
