Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has felicitated the people of the city on commencement of the Mehran Highway phase-II, saying it was a proof of strong friendship between Pakistan and Japan. The cost of the project would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 557 million, which the JICA had provided. The project would embed the construction of 2 tracks of width 36 feet each and storm water drains and installation of street lights. The Mehran High would be a substitute of National Highway and would ease out the hassles of transportation faced by the Landhi Industrial Zone, Export Processing Zone, Port Qasim and multi-national companies on those routes. The Governor said this on the occasion of foundation stone laying ceremony held at Sindh Governor House Tuesday. The Consul General of Japan in the city Akira Ouchi, Deputy Consul General of Iran Aghai Sehrai, JICA advisor Nagasi, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, former Karachi Administrator Syed Faisal Sauood, Captain Fahimuzzaman and other notables were present. The Governor lauded the KMC Administrator and the team for timely completion of the Mehran Highway phase-I with Rs. 300 million. He said that the process of development in the city was being continued and the people of the city would witness the pleasures that would ooze out from the projects to be completed. He said that the construction of 5 news fly-over was being carried out while work on 2 more fly-over and one under-pass would also be commenced. The Governor said that Japan had been providing unconditional financial and technical assistance for many development projects including the Mehran High way, Karachi Circular Railways. Earlier while speaking on the occasion, the KMC Administrator said that the Mehran High way would be 9-km long and would cost Rs. 557 million. He said that the work on KCR would kick off this year with the support of JICA.
