The Russian Federal Customs Service has foiled yet another attempt to smuggle cocaine into Russia via bananas, a problem that’s been going on for years.

As usual, the shipment originated in Ecuador but this time was on its way to Kaliningrad when it was intercepted and seized.

Officials say they found 265 pounds of cocaine in the boxes.

One odd thing about the cargo discovered in this particular instance is that in each of the boxes was a sheet of paper on which a prayer was written.

The smugglers were asking that the prophet Jonah protect the goods in their travels.

The prayer was answered, just not in the way they thought it would be, as the contents are now in police custody.

Just a week before this seizure, authorities discovered another cocaine-concealing attempt involving bananas and Ecuador.

In that case, the point of arrival was St. Petersburg and the weight of the contraband was 310 pounds.

The estimated street value of that quantity is 24 million dollars.
