Australia's conservative opposition led by Tony Abbott is poised to post a landslide victory in national elections over Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, an exit poll by Australia's Nine television network said on Saturday (September 7).
Voting in Australia's most populous eastern states closed at 6 p.m. local time (0800 GMT) and official results should be known within a few hours.
The exit poll pointed to a possible 40-seat majority for Abbott's Liberal-National Party coalition, ending six years of Labor Party rule and three years of minority government.
