Here are the best actress nominees for this year's Primetime Emmys in a drama series:

Number 7 - It’s no shock that a leading lady on AMC’s hit series Mad Men landed a slot. Elisabeth Moss portrays Peggy Olson, who learned to play the ad game under the tutelage of Don Draper.

Number 6 - Connie Britton is another nominee on the Emmy list for the character Rayna James. Her role is a singer slash songwriter on Nashville.

Number 5 - Claire Danes is also up for the leading actress title. She plays Carrie Mathison on the drama series Homeland.

Number 4 - Vera Farmiga portrays a single mother as Norma Bates on the show called Bates Motel.

Number 3 - There is a type of cult following for the series, Downton Abbey. Actress Michelle Dockery landed a spot on the Emmy list for her portrayal of Lady Mary Crawley.

Number 2 - Kerry Washington from the American political thriller series, Scandal is another nominee for her role of Olivia Pope.

Number 1 - House of Cards’ Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood, was included in the leading actress pool for her part in the Washington DC-based drama.
