The siege at the shopping mall in Nairobi is ended.

Now the difficult task for Kenyans to reclaim their dead.

Some are frustrated over delays in releasing the bodies of their loved ones.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) KENYAN WOMAN, SAYING:

"The police are saying it is the doctor who has refused. Then the doctor are telling us it is the police that are not giving the clearance. What is this?"

Nairobi's top mortuary official says the delay can't be avoided.

At least 72 people were killed during the four-day siege by Somali Islamists.

There are just so many bodies to post-mortem, he says.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MORTUARY OFFICIAL SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT JACOB NYONGESA, SAYING:

"We would have released them earlier but all the pathologists were summoned to go to Westgate so they can assist in the retrieval of the bodies under the rubbles."
