Two British women who pled guilty to drug smuggling charges in Peru revealed details of their alleged crime in court Tuesday.
Melissa Reid and Michaella McCollum Connolly were arrested in August at the airport in Lima after 11 kilos of cocaine was found in their luggage.
The pair initial pled not guilty to the charges, but have since changed their plea in hopes of a lighter sentence.
The defendants are working closely with the prosecutor's office to clarify the chronology of events, Chief Prosecutor Juan Mendoza Abarca said.
The pair, both aged 20, are hoping for a reduced sentence of around six years for their cooperation with authorities.
