A court in Russia Wednesday charged five Greenpeace activists with piracy a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The group were amongst 30 arrest after a protest last month in which Greenpeace activists tried to scale a Russian oil drilling platform in the Arctic.
The five charged include Brazilian, British, Russian, Finnish, and Swedish/ American nationals.
Greenpeace has called the charges extreme and disproportionate.
Charges against the other 28 are expected soon.
