The Jules Undersea Lodge is used for wedding ceremonies and other events, while the United States Navy and NASA scientists use another facility called the Marine Lab.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration operates the third underwater facility called Aquarius Reef Base that can house 6 researchers at a depth of 60 feet.

Tom Potts, director of the Aquarius Reef Base said: “Divers from the surface have about an hour and a half per day to do all of their work. If we could actually inhabit the bottom of the ocean for 30 to 60 days, imagine the productivity we could get out of researchers down there.”

There are plans to create an underwater hotel in Poland, and the Maldives along with similar projects in development for Dubai, Singapore and Norway.

The technology reportedly exists to make underwater bunkers for up to 1 hundred people, but because of water pressure, living more than 1 thousand feet underwater could be dangerous.
