M23 Congo rebels to disarm

This hillside stronghold of Congolese M23 rebels was the last to fall to government forces.

Its capture on Tuesday along with rebel fighters and ammunition led M23 to announce an end to its 20-month revolt.

On the streets of the capital, Kinshasa, some were happy the fighting was over, others worried about President Joseph Kabila's next move.

(SOUNDBITE)(French) PACIFIQUE MASSANGUE, KINSHASA RESIDENT, SAYING:

"I think it's a victory we can all celebrate together in the entire territory of the DRC."

(SOUNDBITE)(French) KEVIN YAKOSSOU, KINSHASA RESIDENT, SAYING:

"The president's mandate finishes in 2016. He needs to leave power, he shouldn't say that he won over M23 and that he can continue with another mandate. He should stop."

The defeat of M23 appeared to vindicate the United Nations' deployment of a tough new intervention brigade this year.

But China's ambassador to the U.N said M23 wasn't the only rebel group. Dozens are still active
