Would you complain if your junk mail stopped being delivered? In Pennsylvania, a United States postal worker is being investigated for neglecting to deliver about 500 pieces of standard rate junk mail.
For almost 2 months, Penn Hills residents didn’t receive the stacks of ads and catalogs they were used to seeing. One woman said, “My husband does the shopping, and he’s upset that he didn’t get his ads.”

After reports, the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General examined the case and discovered nearly 500 pieces of junk mail. Special agent Scott Balfour said having large amounts of undelivered mail is rare, but the guilty person will be held accountable.

Even though people admitted to hating junk mail, those interviewed were upset and felt the mailman was wrong to withhold the mail. According to 76-year-old Robert McLain, “He has a job to do, he gets paid. It’s the mailman’s job to give mail to people. He didn’t do it.”

The reason behind the offense is still unknown. However, Balfour said none of the mail seemed to be tampered with or stolen. The unnamed mail carrier could be charged with “obstruction of correspondence” and face up to 5 years in jail.
