ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

British Prime Minister David Cameron visited the north of Sri Lanka, where his motorcade was mobbed by Tamil protesters.

Cameron is the first leader of a foreign country to travel to the north since a civil war ended four years ago, and he was scheduled to meet leaders of the country's Tamil minority.

The way the Tamils were treated by government forces, especially towards the end of the long-running war, was at the forefront of the build up to a Commonwealth summit of about 50 mostly former British colonies, which opened in Colombo earlier in the day.
