In India, exiled Tibetans offer special prayers for those affected by typhoon Haiyan.

In New York, the Empire State building was lit up in the colors of the Philippine flag.

Across Asia, the Filipino community prayed for their relatives back at home.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MALONA CHUA, DOMESTIC HELPER WITH RELATIVES IN TACLOBAN, SAYING:

"My nephew in Tacloban, my sister in Manila called me, to tell me he is dead. One couple and two children also died, and the house was washed away."

The community in Hong Kong has been raising money and packing boxes of donations full to bursting.

In South Korea, Filipinos and Koreans laid flowers outside the embassy in sympathy for the victims.

The super typhoon has displaced four million people and left thousands dead. Aid is slowly arriving but it is an anxious time for friends and relatives living overseas.
