Hailing the goods transporters’ decision of calling off its strike, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Coordination Committee of Muttahida Quami movement demanded of the government to provide relief to the importers by exempting demurrages charges accumulated against them in the last 12 days of strike.
The Central Coordination Committee apprehended that if the huge amount under the head of demurrages charges were not waived, the importers would include this amount in their commodities and, as such, the prices of basic essential items would go up further, adding miseries to the common man.
The Committee appealed to the government to provide relief to the importers so as to ensure that rate of inflation might not shoot up further in the country.
