Seven people were killed, four were wounded and two are still missing after a cargo ship accident in Italy on Tuesday.
The Jolly Nero was leaving the port of Genoa at around 11:30pm bound for Naples when it crashed into the port's control tower. It was reported that 14 people were trapped in the 50-meter-high glass-topped tower at the time of the accident.
According to Italian media reports, the cargo ship lost control and the left-hand side of the ship's stern crashed into the tower. The structure then bent 45 degrees before collapsing and crushing neighbouring buildings.
A 50-year-old man was found alive under the rubble and was rushed to hospital. Seven bodies were recovered, including several by rescue divers from the water.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, but reports said two engines may have stopped working, causing the ship to lose control. The captain of Jolly Nero is currently under investigation for multiple manslaughter.
