According to the Guardian, Cleveland authorities admitted they visited the house where three missing girls had allegedly been kept in captivity for a decade and were criticized by Cleveland citizens for not intervening earlier.
According to reports, several years ago a neighbor who lives three houses away from the suspect's house called the police after her daughter saw a naked woman crawling on her hands and knees in the house's backyard.
In 2011, another neighbor saw a woman pounding on the house's window from inside, as if she wanted to escape, ABC News reported. Her brother called the police and two officers arrived at the suspect's house and knocked on the door 15 to 20 times, but no one answered.
One of the officers tried to peer through the windows, but they were blocked with black bags, so they left, reports said.
Despite their decade-long ordeal, the women were reported by police to be in good health, were taken to the hospital for evaluation and reunited with their families, the Guardian reported.
