When he died in 96 he had a 10 year pension. Unfortunately my friend didn't realize his Mom was collecting on the pension for 5 years until her death in 01. He now owes them $98,000. They want their money even though it was 100% their fault and they even admitted that much to him. He was just a kid, well a young man, that just lost both of his parents and he was in a horrible spot in his life, he didn't know what they heck was going on. Anyway, can he file bankruptcy and avoid paying this??? He was told since it was a union pension thru the state of NJ it's like oweing the IRS and filing bankruptcy will do no good.
