Acoustic Blues Guitar Lesson:
In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a basic blues turnaround that every aspiring blues player must know. As you can imagine there are hundreds of turnarounds so that´s why I really recommend you to learn some of the examples you can find in our youtube channel. These turnarounds are like the core of the blues music, so once you have some of them down you will master like a 50 per cent of your blues chops.
Ok, so... What is a turnaround? Blues turnarounds are lines or chords, or even chord melodies that are played at the end of a section of a blues progression which then leads to the next section or a song ending. Usually the difference between these last two, are that when it leads to another section or chord progression (commonly a 12 bar-blues progression), it ends with a V chord. And when it is coming the end of the chord progression or song it ends with a I or root chord.
In the example of today´s lesson, we can see a pretty common blues line in E minor, where we will use the blues scale (this is basically a pentatonic scale with a flat 5th ). I recommend you to listen to the greatest bluesmen of all time, such as BB King, Albert King, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. But also is pretty important that you come up with your own turnaround ideas. And that is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style.
Alright, that is all for today... Anyway I suggest that you keep enjoying and learning from Jon MacLennan and all the staff of Guitarcontrol.com! Where? In our free lessons at www.youtube.com/guitarcontrol
