France is preparing to pull many of its troops out of Mali after a campaign against al-Qaeda linked groups there. Two thousand of the 3,000 soldiers it deployed are supposed to return home by the end of January, but fighting has not siezed in Mali. Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports.
