Icicles dangling off homes is a common sight this time of year, but can pose a danger if they suddenly fall and strike someone.

A man in St. Charles Township, Illinois took an unconventional approach to getting rid of them. He walked outside with his hand gun and simply fired shots at the icicles on his home.

The 80-year-old male was busted by police red handed, armed with the .22 revolver and shooting the long ice chunks. Cops were tipped off about his bizarre method after a neighbor reported hearing gunfire.

According to reports, the icicles had been hanging from his second story roof. Police informed the elderly male shooting icicles was not the proper way to get rid of them. They also warned him not to do it again.

At this time, no charges have been filed. The man’s wife was contacted for a comment, but she didn’t have much to say.

It remains unclear if the man’s procedure of shooting ice is a radical hobby or if he was generally concerned about the hazard they posed hanging from the roof.
