Two people have been injured, including a child, after an Israeli air strike on a motorbike in northern Gaza.
Israel identified its target as Ahmad Sa’ad, a senior Islamic Jihad operative in his early 20s. It holds him responsible for cross-border rocket attacks from the territory last week
Palestinian medical sources say the man taken to hospital is in a critical condition and that a 12-year-old boy who had been standing near the motorbike was less seriously injured.
Air strikes earlier on Sunday and during the week are a sign of growing Israeli impatience over a recent upsurge in rocket fire.
Israel responded with a series of air strikes on Thursday after
five rockets were fired at its southern city of Ashkelon. They were all intercepted by the Israeli Iron Dome defence system.
