Eight pilot whales stranded on New Zealand’s South Island have been euthanised on Thursday after attempts to re-float them failed, local media reported.
However, when they were found beached again they were shot by The Department of Conservation to avoid further suffering.
The area is known to be one of the worst in the world for whales to get beached, with at least 250 pilot whales dying there in the last five years, New Zealand media said.
