In a tragic report, an 8-year-old hero passed away while saving his family from a house fire. Tyler Doohan had been spending a Sunday night with relatives in Penfield, New York.
In the early morning hours, a fire broke out in the single wide trailer. At approximately 4:45 in the morning, firefighters received a call about the blaze. However Tyler didn’t wait for help; instead he woke six other people who were sleeping in the trailer, 2 of whom were small children.
Once Tyler was sure everyone got out to safety, he went back inside the burning trailer to save his disabled uncle. Tyler wasn’t able to pull the man out of bed on his own.
The fire had spread by that point. The heat and smoke were so thick; it was unbearable. Sadly Tyler and his uncle passed away in the same room, only feet apart from one another.
The child’s grandfather, 57-year-old Louis J. Beach also died in the fire. Tyler’s school district noted “In bravely and selflessly giving his own life, he was able to save the lives of six others, and he is truly a hero.”
