Japan's decision to teach it's young people that groups of disputed islands are in fact owned by Japan is causing backlash from Chian and South Korea, both of whom claim the respective islands as their own.

The Japanese education ministry made the announcement Tuesday in Tokyo.

While the islands have not been included in the education guidelines until now, the education minister said, they will now be written as being Japan's territory and that there is no existing territorial dispute.

But there is a dispute... and it got larger after the announcement.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson said they strongly condemn the action.

The Japanese ambassador to South Korea was called into the foreign ministry for a scolding.

They maliciously included these reckless claims in the teaching guidelines for middle and high schools, the vice minister said in front of a stone faced ambassador.

The islands in question are called Dokdo in South Korea
