Scientists at Oxford University have uncovered a region of the prefrontal cortex in the brain, which is completely unique to humans. This regions allows us to consider "what ifs" and makes us feel bad when we make bad decisions. The lateral frontal pole prefrontal cortex is, effectively, our conscience.
