Animals have an ability to not only survive traumatic events but they often thrive from them. Take Gem, a young dog that has managed to warm hearts across the country.
The so called “throw away” puppy was found on December 20th in a plastic bag moving along a rubbish sorting conveyor belt at the Recology recycling plant in San Francisco.
It was alert workers at the facility who stopped the belt and opened up the bag to discover the terrified pup. Authorities suspected she was placed in a dumpster prior to arriving at the landfill.
Despite that rough start, she was recently adopted. A Recology employee is the new lucky owner.
Patricia Aleman was chosen out of over 200 people from all over the US, who showed interest in adopting Gem. Two of Aleman’s co-workers were responsible for stopping the conveyer belt and saving Gem.
Aleman was told about Gem right after fellow employees saved her life. She stated “It was such a miracle to see that she made it alive.”
Gem is now a happy, playful dog. Alemen has received permission from supervisors to bring Gem to work from now on.
