In the latest depressing example of "no good deed going unpunished", Texas-native Greg Snider was mistakenly detained for more than an hour by Houston police as part of a 'drugs bust' after giving change to a homeless man, according to a report by KPRC Local 2 News.
Snider pulled into a parking lot in downtown Houston at around 2pm to take a business call.
"That's when the homeless man came up to me. He said, 'Hey my name is Dave. I'm from Dallas. I'm down on my luck. Do you have any change,'" Snider told KPRC Local 2.
Moments after Snider drove off and pulled onto a nearby freeway, a police officer pulled him to the side.
"I had no idea at all what was about to happen," said Snider.
It didn't take long for him to find out.
"He's screaming," said Snider. "He's yelling. He's telling me to get out of the car. He's telling me to put my hands on the hood."
He was next handcuffed and detained for over an hour by police who were certain they had a drug bust on their hands.
Despite the lengthy search, the more than ten police officers deployed to deal with the operation came up empty and Snider was eventually released.
The wasted time and taxpayer dollars, apparently didn't stop the officers from having a good ol' time, according to Snider, who said they laughed at his expense at the end of the ordeal.
