A pilot named Rob Weber is lucky to be alive after a bird crashed right through a plane which he had been flying.
Birds are small and seemingly innocent, however if they strike a plane, the aftermath can be very, very bad. A pilot named Rob Weber is lucky to be alive after a bird crashed right through a plane which he had been flying.
Weber was in the air over Fort Meyers at the time of the incident. The terrifying ordeal was captured on camera.
A cockpit view of the surroundings looked serene, but out of nowhere, a bird smashed right through the windshield. The bird couldn’t be seen beforehand.
Weber reflected on the occurrence stating ‘All of the sudden the window just explodes. I don't know if he was diving or what happened when I got him. I declared an emergency and I got it down as quickly as I could.’
At the time of the bird strike, Weber was alone and had been traveling about 170 miles per hour. The aircraft was approximately 1,000 feet above the ground.
Amazingly he was able to land the plane safely. Firefighters checked him over to ensure he was uninjured. For the most part he was, but Weber did encounter one large laceration to his forehead.
