There are certain types of tumors that serve as somewhat of a mystery. In one very rare medical case, a 4-month-old male had a tumor removed from his brain.
What makes the ordeal so bizarre is that teeth were forming in his brain resulting from that tumor. The child’s doctors are hoping this case will help them understand how the unusual type of brain tumor forms.
It had been a long withstanding belief that this specific kind of tumor called a craniopharyngioma, developed from the same cells required to make teeth grow. This case now provides evidence of this.
As for the child in question, he will have to receive hormone treatments for the rest of his life, as craniopharyngiomas affects the brain’s pitutary gland, which is responsible for releasing many vital hormones.
Aside from that, his prognosis is good. His doctor, Narlin Beaty stated "He's doing extremely well, all things considered. This was a big tumor right in the center of his brain. Before the moderate surgical era this child would not have survived."
