Twenty-eight people were injured in a grenade attack in central Bangkok on Sunday.
Large crowds of anti-government demonstrators gathered at the Victory Monument in Bangkok on Sunday afternoon. According to the Bangkok Post, six assailants sneaked their way behind the rally stage and one of them threw a grenade near a press centre tent.
After the first grenade went off, the attacker tried to escape but was chased by security guards and protesters, forcing him to shoot protesters with a gun. He escaped after getting on a motorcycle driven by his accomplice. All of them managed to get away.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s Erawan Emergency Medical Services Centre said 28 people, including one female journalist from Post Today, were injured in the blast. Seven of them were critically wounded.
Thaworn Senneam, a politician in charge of the rally stage, said the bombing attacks were likely to target at him, as the grenade exploded only 20 metres from him.
Thailand has entered another period of instability as protests aiming to topple the government headed by Yingluck Shinawatra have become more violent. A man was severely wounded after a gunman opened fire at demonstrators in Bangkok's Lad Prao district on Saturday.
