A 25-year-old woman was killed after falling into a 60-metre deep ravine while trekking the Bukit Tabur trail in Malaysia on Tuesday.

Solihah Ab Rahman, a master's student at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, started the hiking trip to Bukit Tabur with seven friends at around 8:00am. According to the New Straits Times, when the group reached a checkpoint around 470 metres above sea level, the young woman tripped over and fell into a 60-metre deep ravine. Her friends informed the police at around 10:40am.

A team of firefighters trekked up the hill and found the unconscious victim, but they summoned a helicopter for an airlift because of the steep slopes. When the Agusta A139 helicopter arrived at the spot, a rescuer was winched down, who placed the young woman on a stretcher. She was pulled up and flown to a Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:30pm.

Local newspaper the Star reported that it was the third accidental death in the area in the last month.

Bukit Tabur, a mountain 500 metres above sea level, is popular among outdoor lovers because of its panoramic views and proximity to Kuala Lumpur. However, trekking the hill during the rainy season is a challenge for hikers, even experienced ones.
