Women are still badly underrepresented in academic life. Studies show that for every published research paper by a woman there are two by her male counterparts.
The road to professional recognition is often more difficult for women than for their male colleagues. Reasons for inequality in the academic sphere include the challenge of combining career and family, the ongoing impact of traditional gender roles, and women’s less-ruthless approach to professional competition.
