Venezuela's National Guard troops patrol the Caracas square they seized from anti-government protesters.

It had become their stronghold during six weeks of demonstrations against President Nicolas Maduro.

During the eviction on Sunday police used tear gas and water cannon against the protesters who were hurling rocks and petrol bombs.

By Monday the protesters were gathering again at Altamira Plaza.

This time they held demonstrations against what they called the militarisation of the square.

The government's been accused of heavy-handed treatment of the protesters since the unrest began in February.

At least 29 people have been killed, the latest a soldier the military said was shot in the head during a demonstration.

The unrest erupted as a backlash against a series of complaints from rampant crime to soaring inflation.

There are no signs it's going to force the departure of the government or the president who's dismissing it as a U.S.-ba
