At 8.30 a.m. police spotted the driver of a red 2002 Saturn using his cell phone and attempted to pull him over. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away.

The officer called in the pursuit and learned a matching car was linked to a shooting several days earlier.

At some point during the chase, the suspect pulled over long enough to let out a female passenger.

He then led police on winding chase through Paradise Hills, Bonita, National City and running a red light before hitting spike strips, according to an SDPD spokesperson.

The video, shot by San Diego's City News Service shows the car rolling to a stop near 41st Street and Hilltop Drive with squad car close behind. Believing he was armed, police then fired some two dozen shots into the car doors and window of the car.

Police later found a firearm and drugs in the car. The man was taken to hospital but his condition has not yet been made public.
