For the 4th time in 5 years, a Swiss-made cheese has won the top honor at Wisconsin’s World Championship Cheese Contest.

The competition for the best overall titles was stiff, with 22 countries submitting a total of over 2600 entries.
While a best in show medal eluded US competitors, the nation did win the most category-specific titles, garnering 59 of the 90 possible gold medals.
Wisconsin dominated the winners’ circle with 33. Notably, the state also had 4 finalists in the overall competition.
Vermont and New York followed with 5 gold medals each.
Other Americans to get the gold hailed from California, Indiana, Illinois and Oregon, among many.
One judge said that Wisconsin’s impressive showing at the event owed quite a bit to the quality of the milk used in production.
He said, "They've improved the milk supply immensely in the last 15 to 20 years. When I was making cheese back in the 1960s and 1970s, it was nothing like it is today.”
