At least nine people are killed in Iraq and 25 others wounded after a suicide bomber drove a truck packed with explosives to an army checkpoint late Tuesday.

No one is immediately claiming responsibility for the attack -- but suicide bombings are a trademark of al Qaeda- affiliated groups.

Security in Iraq has been shaken by a year of relentless violence with nearly 8000 civilians killed in 2013, the worst period for the country since 2008.
