Eleven-year-old boy Antonio Johnson was found killed when a gunman took shots through the window of a south St. Louis home at around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The gunman walked up to the house, broke a ground-level basement window and stepped onto the ledge to gain elevation. The boy was working on a computer when the gunman smashed the first-floor window and fired between eight and 10 rounds into the room. One of the rounds struck the boy in the head and killed him.
"He was just a model student," said Donna Horton, his teacher at Froebel Elementary. She described him as a quiet, shy and selfless student and was loved by all of his classmates and teachers.
Six other people, a 4-year-old, two teenagers and three adults, were inside the house at the time of the shooting. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson said this was a targeted shooting directed at the house, but doesn't believe the boy was the intended target.
One person who had been at the house was taken into custody, but was not necessarily a suspect in the shooting. No arrests had been made in the shooting.
