Afghan policeman shoots two female foreign journalists, killing one

In a remote part of eastern Afghanistan, blood stains the back seat of a bullet-riddled car, where two female journalists had been sitting.
They were shot by an Afghan policeman on Friday in Khost, on the eve of a presidential election.
He killed 48-year-old Anja Niedringhaus, a veteran Associated Press photographer.
Her reporter colleague, Kathy Gannon, seen here on Canadian TV, was wounded in the attack and taken to the provincial hospital.
A hospital official briefed the press.
(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) ABDUL MAJEED MANGAL, DIRECTOR OF KHOST PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL; SAYING:
"We received two foreign female journalists who were working for a news agency. One was killed and the other was wounded seriously. The wounded journalist who is about 60 years old is in critical condition and our surgical team is providing her first aid."
Gannon's condition has since stabilized.
