Russian dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko was sentenced to six years in prison on Tuesday for his role in the acid attack against the artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet.

According to reports, Sergei Filin was attacked in front of his house in Moscow's Troitskaya Street on January 17.

Andrei Lipatov and Yury Zarutsky, hired by Pavel Dmitrichenko, drove to the residence and splashed sulfuric acid on Filin's face.

Dmitrichenko, who is known for his powerful performance in the role of Ivan the Terrible, was arrested after police searched his parents' apartment, which is in the same complex as the home of Filin, the Telegraph reported.

According to reports, he admitted arranging the attack. "Yes, I organised this attack," he said, "But not to the extent that it occurred."

According to the Guardian, Andrei Lipatov, confessed to acting as a getaway driver.
"Yes, I was there at the time," he said. "I drove someone. I didn't see how it happened. I just drove him, waited and drove him away. I was asked to do it, without explanation."

After the attack, Filin fell to the ground and attempted to wash his eyes out with snow, reports say.

He was then transported to the hospital and suffered third-degree burns to his face and neck. He also became almost completely blind from one eye and lost 20% of sight on the other eye. Since the attack, Filin has gone through 23 complicated plastic surgeries and eye surgeries in both Russia and Germany.

Zarutsky, who admitted to throwing the acid in Filin's face, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Lipatov was sentenced to four years.

According to the Voice of Russia, Dmitrichenko resented the way Filin was running the ballet company, his castings and payroll.
