Thailand’s ancient city of Ayutthaya, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Bangkok, kicked off the “Songkran“ water festival on Wednesday (April 9) with hundreds of people and a dozen elephants taking part in a water fight in a city park. The domesticated elephants of Ayutthaya took part in the celebration. Buckets of water were prepared for the elephants, and with the help of their mahouts, or handlers, they sprayed water on people.
